Damariz Rodriguez

HIRMA Board Officer: President

Damariz Rodriguez is a Founding Member of HIRMA. Ms. Rodriguez is the founder and owner of Real Time Services, Inc., providing court reporting & interpreting services. She has led the transition of Real Time Services from a small startup service provider, to a mid-size company providing a multitude of services. Ms. Rodriguez has successfully completed and obtained her company’s certification as a Women and Minority Business Enterprise. She has been in the workers’ compensation industry for approximately 20 years; her experience in began in the field as a benefit coordinator to injured workers, a position that she held for 5 years. Ms. Rodriguez is a member of various others professional and trade associations. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Phoenix in 2011 and completed the Goldman Sachs, 10K Small Business program in 2013. Ms. Rodriguez also completed an interpretation program at the Southern California School of Interpretation in 2006. She enjoys and values spending time with family and friends and loves leisure travel, concerts, theatre as well as outdoor activities and authentic quality food and cooking.

Carlos Luna

HIRMA Board Officer: Vice President

Carlos Luna, Vice President of Marketing for URAC-accredited Risico Total Managed Care, is a trusted adviser to stakeholders in healthcare, claims, managed care, insurance, and government agencies in workers’ compensation. A recognized thought-leader on national workers’ compensation issues, Mr. Luna’s blogs have been published by industry-leading publications such as WorkCompCentral, WorkCompWire, Insurance Business Magazine, Louisiana Comp Blog, and more. Mr. Luna was a key influencer in the state of California moving to update their MTUS treatment guidelines and adopting the state’s drug formulary. He is widely known for having initiated a national dialog regarding the importance of national standards in the development of evidence-based medicine guidelines and led legislative advocacy efforts in California, New York, Texas, Louisiana, Alaska, Nevada, Montana, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and more. Mr. Luna is passionate about establishing an equitable and balanced system that fulfills the Workers’ Compensation Grand Bargain.

Carlos Rodriguez, Ed.D., CIH, CSP

HIRMA Board Officer: Treasurer

Dr. Carlos Rodriguez, CIH, CSP is a Founding Member of HIRMA. He is a HES Professional for Marathon Petroleum with prior safety experience in municipal government and insurance. Dr. Rodriguez holds a doctorate in organizational leadership and is an adjunct instructor for Brandman University teaching courses in strategic planning and leadership and for Waldorf University teaching courses in safety and hazardous materials.

Amalia Sanchez, MPA, NP

HIRMA Board Officer: Secretary

Amalia Sanchez is a dedicated leader who’s worked more than 20 years in the risk management and benefits arena in various industries, including non-profit and for-profit environments. Ms. Sanchez has extensive experience in developing programs, systems, problem solving, strategy and collaborative approaches in various high-pressure settings. Her area of focus for the past 2 years has been Risk Management within the public sector. Currently, Ms. Sanchez plays and integral role in the oversight of operations, development, compliance, quality assurance, functions, processes, implementation of the City of Beverly Hills’ Risk Control, Risk Mitigation, Loss Prevention, Litigation, Claim Management, Negotiations and Contracts. Ms. Sanchez is a successful professional whose insurance experience spans the gamut, including Workers’ Compensation, Auto, Liability, Cyber, Property, Captive, Environmental, and more. She received her Masters Degree (MA), Public Administration in Management and Leadership from California State University, Northridge and currently lives in the Greater Los Angeles area. Ms. Sanchez is passionate about Diversity and Inclusion Programs and is a proud pet-owner of her German shepherd, Zeus.

Josh Diggs

HIRMA Board of Directors

Josh Diggs is an experienced Workers’ Compensation industry specialist and is passionate about his role as Director of Claims for Orion Risk Management. Mr. Diggs spent 14 years at established insurance carriers and a nation-wide Third Party Administrator in various roles, before transitioning to the broker side in 2014, where he now represents employers.  Mr. Diggs is a dedicated, enthusiastic individual with an excellent work ethic, strong communication skills and a commitment to customer service. He was the recipient of the 2018 Comp Laude Award and is an avid writer for various industry publications, newsletters, and social media platforms. He is very active in numerous workers’ compensation industry organizations.

Marjorie Davidson, MBA

HIRMA Board of Directors: Co-Director of Sponsorships

Marjorie Davidson, Workers’ Compensation Manager at Bimbo Bakeries USA, Inc., began her career in New York. She developed, implemented and was responsible for overseeing the County of Nassau’s workers’ compensation program. She joined Bimbo in 2006, working out of the corporate office in the State of Pennsylvania. In 2010, Ms. Davidson relocated to Southern California to run the Bimbo’s California workers’ compensation program. She received her Bachelor of the Arts from New York University and holds a Lawyer’s Assistant Program certification from Adelphi University, also in New York. Ms. Davidson received her Master of Business Administration from Holy Family University in Pennsylvania.

S. Alfonso Smith, Esq.

HIRMA Board of Directors: Director of Legal Affairs, Co-Director of Sponsorships

S. Alfonso Smith, is a Labor and Employment attorney at Tobin Lucks LLP. He has experience assisting clients better position themselves for success while maintaining professionalism. He is effective in managing multiple, high-priority projects while taking pride in providing exemplary customer service. As a graduate of Cal State University Fullerton, and current Graduate Student at the University of La Verne, Mr. Smith’s experience with finance, administration, and insurance enables him to bring the energy, commitment, and excellence necessary to thrive in an innovative environment. As an attorney, Mr. Smith has a passion for Pro Bono work and hope to work with non-profit organizations full time in the future. 

Al Navarro

HIRMA Board of Directors: Director of Publicity

Al Navarro graduated from Whittier College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Business Administration. He has more than 33 years of experience in the workers’ compensation industry including claims examiner, claims supervisor, lien negotiations, and legal representation of self-insured employers and third-party administrators (TPAs). Mr. Navarro’s also has 10 years sales experience representing managed care, bill review and other ancillary service firms. As a gifted negotiator, Mr. Navarro has proven to be a great asset for his clients through successful in-house lien negotiations, as well as WCAB appearances throughout the State of California. Mr. Navarro is an avid reader and enjoys being physically active. He believes that organizations like HIRMA afford its community of members opportunities for continued educational development and professional growth through networking.
